cotta scientifica - scientific crush (scroll down for english)

La persona che vedete qui di fianco si chiama Emily Oster ed è ricercatrice alla University of Chicago. E' una economista. Ultimamente mi sono imbattuto in una sua conferenza e sono rimasto folgorato. Ve la consiglio, presenta il problema dell'AIDS da un nuovo punto di vista. Dopo aver visto la conferenza ho fatto un po' di ricerche e ho letto alcuni suo lavori. Ha cambiato l'idea che mi ero fatto sull'economia, se usata in modo intelligente può essere utile. E' una persona di una intelligenza rara e affilata. Insomma è una scienziata in grado di pensare in modo indipendente e originale. Caratteristica non troppo comune. Non che sia d'accordo su tutto quello che sostiene; avrei qualche domanda da farle... dopotutto non sono così lontano da Chicago... potrei fare una scappata.

Potrei buttare lì il fatto che una ragazza così giovane in Italia probabilmente starebbe a rispondere al telefono in un call center, ma oggi voglio essere positivo.

Purtroppo è sposata... :-)

The person depicted in the photography is Emily Oster and she is a professor at the University of Chicago. She is an economist. Lately I have seen one of her conferences and I was struck. If you have 20 minutes, you should watch it. She presents the AIDS problem from a new perspective and she made me change my mind: Economics can be useful. I have done some research and I read some of her papers. She is very smart she has an intelligence I like to define sharp. She a Scientist and she is able to look at thing independently. Non many people can do that. Not that I agree with everything, I do have some questions... after all I don't live to far from Chicago, I could go and visit her.

I could also write about the fact that a young girl like her would probably be at some costumer care center in Italy, but I'm trying to be optimistic, today.

Unluckily she is married... :-)
