quadrati - square minded (scroll down for english)

Oggi la connessione wireless di casa ha deciso di funzionare un po' sì e molto no. Stranamente lo fa sempre di sabato, quando ne ho bisogno per mantenere quei pochi contatti con l'italia che mi sono rimasti.

Ieri sono andato da un career counselor, per avere qualche consiglio su come affrontare un eventuale colloquio negli USA (ovviamente prima di parlare con il tipo fissato con le regole del due.. - vedi post precedente - mmm adesso che ci penso questo numero influenza spesso la mia vita. Per un non trascurabile numero di anni sono stato perseguitato dai due di picche e adesso dalle regole dei due anni).

La counselor in questione era una ragazza molto più giovane di me, Drew. Drew ha appena conseguito un master in Student Personnel Psychology (non ho la più pallida idea di cosa sia). Tutto sommato è stato un incontro utile e piacevole. Però per tutto il colloquio ho continuato a pensare: "e poi accusano noi ingegneri di essere quadrati".
Alcune chicche:
1) Capisco che il fatto che io abbia un Master of Science senza avere un Bachelor possa turbare tutte le persone abituate al sistema scolastico anglosassone, ma dopo aver spiegato per 5 minuti il sistema scolastico italiano pensavo di aver risolto il problema. Alla fine dell'incontro riguardando il curriculum Drew mi fa "si ok qui va bene, ma ricordati di aggiungere le informazioni sul Bachelor"... gaaaaaaaaa.... "si ok, non capisco come abbia potuto dimenticarmene.... chissà dove ho la testa..."
2) "Le date mettile tutte sulla destra è più professionale" - " mmm perchè?" - "perchè è più professionale" - "cavolo hai ragione come ho fatto a non pensarci prima".
3) "Qui invece di scrivere che hai esperienza come amministratore di sistemi windows, scrivi che sai usare Word, Excel e Powerpoint così è più specifico". gaaaaaaa vabbè questo non è essere quadrati è semplicemente essere ignoranti e non dovrei fargliene una colpa. Del resto immagino di non sapere un sacco di cose sulla "psicologia del personale studente".
4) All'inizio dell'incontro le ho spiegato che al momento non sto rispondendo a nessuno annuncio, per cui le ho mandato la versione "master" del mio CV specificandole che è la versione che modifico lasciando solo le cose rilevanti prima di mandarlo. Lei per tutto l'incontro ha continuato a chiedermi per che tipo di lavoro stavo preparando il CV, se avevo l'annuncio con me così da poter rendere più specifico il CV.

Yesterday I have been to a career counselor, I was seeking some advice on how to face a job interview in the USA (obviously this happened before finding out of the two years rules)

The counselor was a girl named Drew, she is younger than me and has recently obtained a M.A. in Student Personnel Psychology (I don't even know what it is). Overall it was a nice and interesting meeting. The only thing is that I kept only thinking "and they accuse us engineers to be squared-minded"
Here are some examples:
1) I know that it may difficult for anybody used to the anglosaxon college system to come to term with the fact that I have a master of science without officially having a bachelor degree, but after I took 5 minutes to explain her why this is the case, I though everything was settled. At the end of that part of the meeting, while going over my CV, Drew said "this part is fine, but remember to write your bachelor information"... gaaaaaaaaa... "yeah you are right I don't know how I could forget such an important part..."
2) "Put all the dates on the right hand side, it is more professional" - " mmm why?" - "well because it si more professional" - "holy cow! you are right! I should have known".
3) "Here, instead of writing that you have experience as Windows system administrator write that you know how to use Word, Excel and Powerpoint. It is more specific". gaaaaaaa ok, this is not being squared minded, it is plain ignorance. I shouldn't mock her, after all I don't know many things about student personnel psychology.
4) At the beginning of the meeting I explained that I wasn't about to apply for any position, I just wanted some general advice. I sent her the "master copy" of my CV and that when I apply for a position I prune it down so to leave only the relevant things. For all the meeting she kept on asking me about the job I was applying for, saying that the CV like that was to general...

then... who is squared minded?
