Oggi il corriere riporta la notizia secondo la quale il ministro Padova Schioppa ha intenzione di inserire in finanziaria un provvedimento per l'agevolazione fiscale per incentivare i giovani a prendere casa in affitto. Il corriere riporta:

Il governo ha introdotto in Finanziaria la possibilità per i giovani, in un'età compresa tra i 20 e i 30 anni, di usufruire di detrazioni fiscali sugli affitti, sempre che la casa non sia l'abitazione principale dei genitori. La nuova detrazione varia dai 495,8 euro in tre anni se il reddito complessivo supera i 15.493,71 euro ma non i 30.987,41 euro, ai 991,6 euro (sempre in tre anni) se il reddito non supera i 15.493,71 euro.

La notizia per il Corriere è che la proposta è stata definita dal ministro una agevolazione per "mandare i bamboccioni fuori di casa". Tutta l'attenzione è dedicata all'uso del termine bamboccioni. Se solo i giornalisti sapessero fare il loro mestiere si sarebbero accorti che c'è qualcosa di molto più offensivo in questa proposta. Ok, ammetto che il concetto di divisione per un giornalista possa risultare difficile, ma io che ho studiato posso aiutarli... 991 euro / 3 anni = 330 euro all'anno. 330 euro / 12 mesi = 27.5 euro al mese.

1 DANNATO EURO AL GIORNO

Pensano di risolvere il problema degli affitti con un euro al giorno! La stupidità di questa proposta è disarmante... E' uno spreco si soldi immenso; per lo stato l'iniziativa in totale non avrà un costo trascurabile ma i benefici ai cittadini sono assolutamente trascurabili. So che non ci sono le risorse per risolvere il problema, ma proprio per questo non bisogna buttare via soldi. Era meglio tenere da parte quei soldi per migliorare il debito pubblico o se proprio ci si sentiva generosi organizzare una lotteria con in premio l'affitto per tre anni. Questa soluzione sicuramente non è egualitaria.
Ma è meglio una cosa utile per pochi, piuttosto che inutile per tutti.

Today the corriere reports that Minister Padova Schioppa is about to add to the budget law an article to help youngsters move out of their parents' houses. The corriere writes;

The budget law provides for a tax deduction for people between 20 and 30 years. The deduction ranges from 495.8 euros (in 3 years) for incomes above 15,493 euros per year to 991.6 euros (in 3 years) for incomes below 15,493 euros a year.

According to the Corriere the big piece of news here is that the minister called this bill "an incentive to send those mama boys out of their parents house". A big part of the paper is devoted to discuss the use of the word mama boy. If only journalists could do their job, they would have realize that there is something much more offensive hidden in that law. I don't expect journalists to grasp the concept of division, so I am going to help them on this... 991 euros / 3 years = 330 euros per year. 330 euros / 12 months = 27.5 euros a month.

1 DAMNED EURO A DAY

They think to solve the housing problem with one euro a day! My brain hurts... it is a huge waste of money. The State is going to give out a lot of money, but the benefits that people will get out of this are negligible. I know there are not enough resources to solve the problem, but because of that one should be careful in using the money indeed. It would have been better to use that money to improve the public debit, or if they really felt generous they should have put a lottery on. The prize being three years worth of rent. It is not egalitarian, but at least is useful.
I'd rather have something useful for a few than something useless of all.

ragionamenti - reasoning (scroll down for English)

Ieri un ragazzino di Torino è finito in ospedale per aver ingoiato un galleggiante da pesca. L'ingoio è il risultato di una sfida: "ingoialo o sei una checca" gli avevano detto. Un fatto grave di bullismo. Il problema è il commento di Grillini, che dice "basta omofobia nelle aule". Non fraintendetemi, l'Italia è un paese omofobo, ma questo fatto non c'entra nulla con l'omofobia. Vi ricordate la serie di ritorno al futuro? Marty finiva sempre nei guai perchè Biff lo accusava di essere un pollo... Negli anni 80 eravamo forse pollofobi? non credo proprio. I ragazzini fanno cose stupide. Se gli avessero detto "ingoialo o sei un codardo" l'avrebbe fatto lo stesso. E' un atto di bullismo, non di omofobia.
Quello di Grillini è un esempio di come un ragionamento sbagliato che porta a una conclusione giusta rischia soltato di indebolire la conclusione. E' vero in Italia c'è il problema dell'omofobia, ma se cerchi di convincere la gente che quello è un esempio di omofobia, la gente penserà che se hai bisogno di argomenti così deboli il problema non esiste.

Yesterday a kid was hospitalized as a result of trying swallow a fishing buoy. He did it because he was dared by a a group of his peers. They said "swallow it or you are queer". A serious act of bullying. The problem is Grillini; he commented on this fact saying "we need to stop homophobia in classrooms". Don't get me wrong, Italy is a homophobic country, but this fact is not related to homophobia. Do you remember "back to the future"? Marty ended up in troubles because Biff used to dare him saying "do it or you are a chicken". Did we used to be chickenphobic? I don't think so. Kids do stupid things. He would have swallowed the buoy even if they had said "swallow or you are a coward". It is bullying not homophobia.
Grillini's reasoning shows that when you get to the right conclusion through a fallacious reasoning you are weakening your stance. People will think that since you cannot find a better argument you are wrong and the problem does not exist.

un anno in anticipo - a year early (scroll down for English)

Poco più di un anno fa, ho affrontato il problema dell'indulto e del perchè fosse inutile e stupido. Concludevo con queste parole:

Se si ammette che c'è un problema, e il problema c'è, non è una buona idea affrontarlo facendo finta che non ci sia, o se va bene curando i sintomi, perchè altrimenti fra un paio d'anni siamo da capo. Non è un concetto difficile da comprendere, no?

mi sbagliavo! e non di poco. Non si è dovuto aspettare due anni. Ne è bastato uno. E' infatti notizia di qualche giorno fa che le carceri sono di nuovo piene. E adesso che si fa? un altro indulto? Ogni anno liberiamo i carcerati in eccesso? non mi stupirei se qualcuno lo proponesse di nuovo. Fortunatamanete adesso a influenzare la politica Italiana c'è il nazipapa e non credo che spingerà per l'indulto.

Something more that a year ago I commented on the general pardon approved by the Italian Parliament. I explained why it was stupid and useless and I wrote these words:

If we admit there is a problem, and there is a problem, it is never a good idea to face it pretending it's not there, or, if we are lucky treating the symptoms. In this way in a couple of years we will be in the same situation as before. It isn't that difficult to understand, is it?

I was wrong! Terribly wrong! We didn't have to wait two years! One was enough. Italian prisons are again full. Now what? another pardon? I wouldn't be surprised if somebody came forward with that idea again. Luckily this time we have the nazipope influencing Italian politics and I don't think he will push for pardon.

Gioite! il Vaticano è il primo Stato del mondo a diventare neutro dal punto di vista della produzione di anidride carbonica. Il che significa che attualmente sta producendo tanta anidride carbonica quanta ne riesce a smaltire (o meglio a convertire in ossigeno grazie alla fotosintesi). Il Vaticano è particolarmente fiero di questa cosa, infatti in una nota ricorda che "Il libro della Genesi ci dice che all'inizio Dio ha messo l'uomo a guardia della terra con il compito di farla fiorire". C'è però un inghippo. Un cavillo... Il Vaticano è CO2 neutro grazie a una compania ungara che ha donato l'ossigeno prodotto da una sua foresta in Ungheria al Vaticano. Insomma il Vaticano non ha fatto assolutamente nulla, è merito della KlimaFa. A ben guardare la Genesi non dice che tutti gli uomini sono a guardia della terra... alcuni seminano, altri raccolgono i frutti... come è sempre stato e sempre sarà.

sui valori cristiani - on Christian values (scroll down for english)

Immagino che tutti abbiate sentio della vicenda che ha coinvolto il parlamentare Cosimo Mele dell'UDC. Personalmente credo che i politici non debbano essere giudicati per la loro vita privata, a meno che non siano loro a introdursi per primi nella nostra vita privata.

Fino a quando Mele ha ammesso la sua responsabilità la vicenda avrebbe potuto accadere in qualunque nazione. L'assurdità tipicamente Italiana è avvenuta dopo. Invece di dire "va bene, ha sbagliato, il suo comportamento non è conciliabile con i valori in cui l'UDC crede" e finita lì; hanno sentito la necessità di aggiungere di quanto sia difficile stare lontani da casa e che dopo 6 giorni (!) la solitudine si fa sentire e che quindi era comprensibile. Io di stare lontanto da casa e dalle persone amate ne so qualcosina. Il saperne qualcosina non significa che devo lavorare a Roma 3 giorni a settimana quando la mia famiglia è a Milano per una quantità di soldi che neanche riesco a immaginare. Significa che ho passato 1 anno e mezzo (e adesso sto passando altri 6 mesi) lontano dalla mia famiglia e dalla mia principessa. In un paese straniero, dove inizialmente non conoscevo nessuno.
E' vero, la solitudine si fa sentire ma non mi è mai neanche passato per la testa di andare con una prostituta; non tanto perchè "è sbagliato e poi vado all'inferno", quanto perchè una prostituta non potrebbe darmi quello di cui sento la mancanza. Il bisogno di sesso si può placare con metodi "manuali" - o dimenticavo anche quello è peccato. Quello che manca solo le chiaccherate e l'intimità. Non credo che una prostituta sia in grado di dare tutto ciò.

Ma non è finita, Mele ha sentito il bisogno di difendersi. In una intervista pubblicata su la stampa sostiene che:

Mele: «Siamo allo scempio generale. Io non ho fatto altro che andare a cena con un amico che mi ha presentato la ragazza che, siccome era tardi, è venuta a letto con me».

Eggià a chi non è mai capitato: "oh abbiamo fatto tardi... vieni a letto con me?" - "certo! ti ho conosciuto solo cinque minuti fa, ma è tardi come posso dire di no?" Anzi di solito non c'è neanche bisogno di dire vieni a letto con me. E' una conseguenza logica del "è tardi". Cioè dai sul serio, ma sta gente si ascolta quando parla? Al di là della prostituta o meno, è un politico dovrebbe sapere qualcosa di logica!

Giornalista: Converrà, onorevole, che lei milita in un partito, l’Udc, che dei valori della famiglia, della Chiesa ne ha fatto una bandiera...

Mele: «E che i parlamentari dell’Udc non fanno l’amore? Certo che mi riconosco nei valori cristiani ma che c’entrano questi con l’andare con una prostituta? E’ una faccenda personale».

COSA C'ENTRANO I VALORI CRISTIANI CON L'ANDARE CON UNA PROSTITUTA!?! ma che diavolo sta dicendo sto tipo?
Comandamento numero 6: Non commettere atti impuri.
Comandamento numero 9: Non desiderare la donna d'altri.
Comandamento numero 8. Non dire falsa testimonianza.
Qui siamo davanti all'infrazione di 3 comandamenti su 10. E' una faccenda personale? Io inizio a essere confuso a questo punto. Qualche cristiano potrebbe per favore spiegarmi quali sono i valori cristiani? No sul serio, io non capisco.

Ma la cosa più grave è che dopo una risposta del genere, assurda e inconcepibile, io mi aspettavo che il giornalista facesse notare le contraddizioni e invece:

Giornalista: Ricorda la bufera che si è scatenata per la foto del portavoce del governo, Silvio Sircana, che parla con un transessuale?

No, aspetta un attimo... il giornalista cambia discorso! Questo è il giornalismo Italiano, giornalisto d'azione che non si fa mettere a tacere dal potere politico...

Giornalista: Ma la ragazza lei l’ha pagata?
Mele: «Posso garantire che non mi ha chiesto nulla. Io gli ho fatto spontaneamente un regalo. Sono un uomo pubblico ed è giusto che chiarisca come sono andate le cose. Andrò in questura con il mio avvocato....».

Un regalo, spontaneo, in contanti, dopo aver fatto sesso con una donna che ha conosciuto la sera stessa. Suvvia è successo a tutti noi, si fa l'amore con la propria ragazza e dopo le si fa un regalo in contanti per dimostrarle il nostro affetto.

Io davvero non capisco: non poteva semplicemente dire "è vero sono stato con una prostita, in Italia questo non è reato quindi smettiamola con ste manfrine. Giudicheranno i miei elettori. Ah e a proposito... è ormai chiaro che sta storia dei valori cristiani in politica deve finire"

Probably many of my English speaking readers haven't heard anything about Cosimo Mele. Well, long story short; Cosimo Mele is congress man for a political party (UDC) which is close to the Catholic Church. Lately the party has been very active against a law that would recognize some right to homosexuals couples and it, among other parties, was able to have it rejected. Anyway, Cosimo Mele admitted he had sex with a prostitute (somebody says there were two prostitutes).
I generally don't care about politicians personal life, as long as they don't care about mine.

Up to when Mele admitted he had sex with a prostitute, the story may have taken place anywhere in the world. The Italian absurdity kicks in after that. Instead of saying something like "ok, he made mistake, his behavior is not admissible under the values that UDC protects" they felt the urge to add how difficult it is to live far from one's family and that after 6 days (!) one starts to feel lonely and that Mele's behavior was therefore comprehensible.

I know a couple of things about being far from my beloved ones. Knowing a couple of things doesn't mean the I work in Rome 3 days a week for a gazillion of Euros when my family lives in Milan. It means that I have been far from my family and princess for a year and a half. I lived in a foreign country where at first I didn't know anybody.
It is true, it can be difficult, but I have never thought about going with a prostitute. Not because "it is wrong and I would go to hell", simply because a prostitute cannot give me what I miss. What I miss are chat and intimacy, and I don't think prostitutes are trained to offer that kind of service. They offer sex, but the need for sex can be quenched with other means (oh I forgot that is a sin too)

But it is not over yet, Mele tried to defend himself. From an interview published by la stampa

Mele: « I didn't do anything but going out for dinner with a friend of mine who introduced me this girl. Since it was late, she went to bed with me.».

Oh yes! it always happens "oh look! it is late, let's go to bed together" "sure! I met you only 5 minutes ago, but it is so late how can I say no". Actually there is not need to ask, the very fact that it is late entails that she is going to bed with you. Come on, seriously, but do these people listen to what they say! I don't care about the prostitute, he is a politician somebody should have taught him logic!

Journalist: You will agree with me that your Party has embraced the cause of the Roman Church in defense of family values.

Mele: «do you think that the congress men of my party don't make love? Sure I believe in Christian values, but what does having sex with a prostitute have do to with Christian values? It is a personal thing.».

WHAT DOES HAVING SEX WITH A PROSTITUTE HAVE TO DO WITH CHRISTIAN VALUES?!?! what the hell is wrong with this guy?
Commandment number 6: Thou shalt not commit adultery
Commandment number 8: Thou shalt not bear false witness
Commandment number 9: Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wifepuri.

Here I can count at least 3 broken commandments. I am confused, some Christian can please explain me what are the so called Christian values? Seriously I don't know.

But the worst thing is that after such an absurd answer, I was expecting the journalist to question him about Christian values, instead:

Journalist: Do you remember when the government spokesperson was photographed talking with a transexual?

Wait a second... the journalist just change subject! This is Italian journalism, at its finest hour!

Journalis: Did you pay the girl?
Mele: «I can guarantee that she didn't asked anything. I gave her a present, spontaneously....».

Right, a present, in cash, spontaneously, after having sex with her. Come on! who has never gave cash to his girlfriend after sex. Nothing says "I love you" as some cash!

I really don't get it, couldn't he have just said "it is true, I went with a prostitute, in Italy this is not a crime, so let's stop with this waste of time and let's get back to work. By the way it is clear now that the whole story of Christian values in Politics must come to a stop"

PS: the journalist who made that interview is Gino Ruotolo. He should win the Pulitzer.

le dimensioni contano - dimensions do matter (scroll down for english)

Se mai insegnerò un corso di fisica, inizierò la prima lezione con la seguente frase: "le dimensioni contano". E' una di quelle frasi che rimane in mente agli studenti, ma cosa ancora più importante è vera. Le dimensioni, soprattutto in fisica, contano. Conoscere la fisica può fare la differenza tra avere un lavoro dignitoso e finire a fare il giornalista italiano. Negli ultimi giorni mi è capitato di leggere due articoli sul corriere della sera che mi hanno fatto pensare. Il primo è L'auto elettrica che supera le «supercar» di Alessandra Carboni e il secondo è «Addio paparazzi». La vacanza si fa in sottomarino di Paolo Beltramin. Nel primo articolo si parla di una macchina elettrica. In particolare l'autrice sostiene che:

I consumi elettrici sono 200 watt per ora in ciclo urbano

Cavolo! Quest'auto davvero non consuma nulla! Non consuma nulla nel senso che i watt per ora non sono nulla. Dimensionalmente la potenza/tempo non è nulla, se non una sorta di "accelerazione di energia" (cosa che non ho mai visto usare).
Il secondo articolo parla di un sottomarino, quando è stato pubblicato l'articolo rimandava a uno schema del mezzo. Nello schema si leggeva la interessante dicitura "freni ABS". Freni ABS? Oh per mille balene, cosa se ne fa un sottomarino di freni ABS, visto che non ha ruote che possano bloccarsi? Effettivamente il sito ufficiale dei produttori parla di ABS... peccato che faccia riferimento a una certificazione ABS, che non è altro che l' American Bureau of Shipping. Il giornalista non ha pensato valesse la pena fare una veloce ricerca, ha letto ABS e ha scritto freni ABS.

Fin qui i fatti. Sì ma che rompi balle che sei! beh è vero sono un rompi balle. Apparentemente sono errori banali, non stravolgono il significato della notizia. Però questi due episodi mi hanno fatto pensare. I giornali dovrebbero informare, ma se ogni volta che leggo un articolo di carattere tecnico/scientifico trovo degli errori come posso fidarmi e usare il giornale per informarmi su argomenti che non conosco? Semplicemente non posso. Non ci riesco. Qui non si parla di parzialità o meno, qui si parla di incompetenza. Incompetenza delle persone che dovrebbero formare l'opinione pubblica. E in una democrazia l'opinione pubblica conta.

Che vergona, fossi un giornalista distruggerei la tessera del partit.... mmm dell'ordine.

If I ever teach Physics 101, I will begin my first lecture with the following phrase: "dimension do matter". It is one of thos phrases that stays in the mind of the students, and most of all it is true. Knowing Physics may make the difference between ending up with a decent job and being an Italian Journalis.
In the last few days I read a couple of article from Corriere della Sera (one of the two most important newspaper in Italy). The former is The electric car that runs faster than supercars by Alessandra Carboni and the latter is «So long, paparazzi». Vacations on a submarine by Paolo Beltramin. The first paper is about an electric car and the author writes that

In urban driving cycle, the car consumes 200 watt per hour.

Holy cow! This car really consumes nothing! In fact watt per hour is nothing! Dimensionally speaking power/time is nothing, it may be considered as a sort of energy acceleration but I have never seen that used.
The second paper is about a submarine; originally the article was published with a schematics of the vehicle. In the schematics, it was reported that the submarine is equipped with "ABS brakes". Arrr! what's the use for ABS brakes when submarines don't have wheels? A quick check on the official website of the manufacturing company reveals that indeed they mention ABS, but it is a certification and ABS stands for American Bureau of Shipping. The author didn't fell like wasting time to get the truth, after all he ain't no freakin' rocket scientist, just a journalist.

To this points just facts. Yes I know I am tedious... these little mistakes do not change the meaning of the news. But there is only one little problem. Newspapers are supposed to inform, but how can I trust them to learn things that I don't know when every time I read a paper on some topics that I know I find mistakes? I cannot. Here is not a matter of objectivity; it is just plain incompetence. The people who are supposed to form the public opinion are often incompetent. And public opinion do matter in democracy.

Shame on them, If I were an Italian journalist I would burn the part.... emmmhhh professional order membership card.

OK, il prezzo è giusto! - OK, the price is right ( scroll down for English)

Scusate il silenzio, in questi mesi sono stato molto occupato sul lavoro. Oggi ho deciso di prendermi una pausa. Ho bisogno di sfogarmi. Vorrei parlare del rapimento di Mastrogiacomo e delle trattative per la sua liberazione. E' notizia di ieri, e cito il ministro degli esteri, che:

Abbiamo realizzato tutte le condizioni per il rilascio di Daniele Mastrogiacomo.

Questo si chiama trattare!... con la benda sugli occhi. Ovviamente, c'è il silenzio stampa e non sarà dato sapere quali sono condizioni sono state richieste, ma ragioniamo. Non credo siano una scorta annuale di parmigiano reggiano, che si sa in Afghanistan non si trova; non credo siano stati gli autografi di Adriano Celentano e Claudia Mori. Secondo me le possibilità sono due: soldi o scambio di prigiornieri.
Secondo voi i Talebani come useranno questi soldi e/o prigionieri? Sicuramente non useranno i soldi per ritirarsi alla Maldive, e non credo abbiamo chiesto la liberazione di qualche persona incacerata per errore. Avranno sicuramente chiesto di liberare delle persone per loro importanti.
Siamo sicuri che questo è proprio quello che vogliamo? Dare ai Talebani quello che chiedono? Del resto in Afghanistan ci sono solo dei militari Italiani (con delle regole di ingaggio che neanche i boy scout, ma questa è un'altra storia) e immagino che a loro faccia solo piacere che le fila dei Talebani vengano rifornite di persone e mezzi.
Ma noi siamo Italiani, noi siamo buoni e giusti, noi trattiamo sempre e soprattutto noi siamo intellettualmente miopi, non riusciamo a fare più di una iterazione di azione-reazione. I cattivi sono gli americani che loro non trattano con i rapitori. Loro organizzano missioni di salvataggio. Quando si concede ai propri nemici quello che chiedono loro hanno il controllo. Le loro richieste potrebbero sembrare innocue, ma come si può essere sicuri che lo siano?
Cinico? Dannatamente. Funziona? Dannatemente.
Ovviamente sperare che qualche giornalista faccia fare questa riflessione ai propri lettori è chiedere troppo. Del resto Mastrogiacomo è un giornalista, e l'ordine si sa...

Sorry for the silence, I have been very busy these months. Today I am going to take some minutes off. I need to talk.
I would like to talk about Mastrogiacomo's kidnapping and about the ongoing negotiation. Yesterday Italy's foreign minister said:

We met all their conditions for Mastrogiacomo's release.

Man! This is called negotiation! with a blindfold. Obviously we will never know what these conditions exactly are. But let's try to do an educated guess. I don't think its a life long stock of Parmesan cheese, nor Andriano Celentano's and Claudia Mori's autographs. I believe it is one of the tow: money, prisoners exchange.
How do you think the Talebans will use this money or persons? I don't think they will retire at the Bahamas not that they requested the release of some innocent guy They must have asked for someone important to them.
Are we sure that this is what we want? After all in Afghanistan there are only a few hundreds Italian soldiers and I think they could use some more, better equipped, Talibans to fight.
Ehi! we are "the Italians", we are right and fair, we negotiate with everybody, but most of all we are intellectually short sighted, we cannot iterate more that two cause-effect steps.
We are not the evil Americans. They do not negotiate with kidnappers. They plan rescue missions. It's risky business, but you exactly know what is at the stakes. You are putting into play the kidnapped and the rescue team, nothing more, nothing less. You are in control. When you give kidnappers what they want you lose control; you will never know what you really gave them.
Cynical? Damn, yes. Does It work? Damn yes!
Obviously to hope that some journalist would make his/her readers do this kind of reasoning would be to much. After all Mastrogiacomo is one of them.

Nel post precedente mi chiedevo quale tipo di rito fosse stato officiato per Pinochet, escludendo che la Chiesa avesse negato il funerale a Welby e l'avesso concesso a Pinochet, del resto Welby non ha mai ucciso nessuno, se non se stesso. Pare invece che non solo il funerale ci sia stato ma sia stato officiato da un vescovo, il vescovo castrense monsignor Juan Barros Madrid. Non ho trovato informazioni su accordi tra il Chile e il Vaticano, ma di solito il clero castrense è comunque legato al Vaticano, correggetemi se mi sbaglio. Magari il Vaticano non ha esplicitamente concesso il rito, ma sicuramente non si è opposto.

In my previous post I was wondering what kind of ritual was held for Pinochet, I ruled out the possibility that a Catholic funeral was officiated for Pinochet but not for Welby; after all Welby has never killed anybody, but him... It seems that indeed the funeral was officiated by Military Bishop Juan Barros Madrid. I haven't found any precise information on relations between Chile and the Vatican, but usually military clergy is controlled by the Vatican too, correct me if I am wrong. The Vatican may not have explicitly approved the ritual, but surely it didn't oppose it. Bravo! clap clap clap...

La setta dei giornalisti è in sciopero e quindi le notizie arrivano alla spicciola. Pare che finalmente Welby sia morto e pare anche che il vicariato di Roma non permetta i funerali secondo il rito Cattolico. L'episodio di Welby chiarisce la differenza che dovrebbe esserci tra dominio temporale e spirituale. E' ok per la Chiesa dire "no no, si è a tutti gli effetti suicidato e quindi non possiamo fare il funerale Cattolico". L'anima, lo spirito, i fantasmi, i demoni, i folletti e le fatine sono affare loro e loro hanno tutti i diritti di decidere sui loro riti. Diverso è quando la Chiesa dice "no quello che chiedeva Welby non si deve poter fare per legge". In questo caso sta sconfinando in un terreno in cui non deve essere permesso alla Chiesa di avere alcun potere.
E poi scusate io i cristiani proprio non li capisco: sei contro il matrimonio tra omosessuali, non sposare uno del tuo stesso sesso! sei contro l'eutanasia non chiedere l'eutanasia! E' così semplice! Questa mania di controllare gli altri proprio non la capisco.
E riguardo al funerale, per rimanere in tema di attualità, qualcuno di voi sa che tipo di rito è stato svolto per Pinochet? No così, giusto per sapere. Sia mai che Welby no e Pinochet sì...

The Journalists Sect is on strike so I don't get much news lately. It seems that Welby (a sort of Italian Terry Schiavo, but conscious) is finally dead and it seems that the Catholic Church won't hold a Catholic funeral for him. Welby case is a perfect example of the difference that there should be between temporal and spiritual domain. It is OK for the Church to say "no way! he committed suicide we cannot bury him in a sacred place". Spirits, ghosts, demons, leprechauns and fairies are their business and they can decide about those things. A different matter is when the Church says "no way! what Welby asked for shouldn't be allowed by the law". In this way it is trespassing.
I am sorry but I really cannot get Christians, you are against gay marriage, do not get one! You are against euthanasia, do ask for it! It is that simple! I really don't get this telling people how to behave.
And again on the funeral, does anybody now what kind of ritual Pinochet got? I am just curious, but I really don't think they hold the funeral for Pinochet and not for Welby, right?...

Quando si sente qualcuno parlare così, ci si rende conto che si è ancora irrimediabilmente legati al concetto della donna casalinga che sta a casa a curare i figli e obbedisce ciecamente al marito.
Non è una cosa scandalosa, è semplicemente stupida. Se davvero gli uomini facessero gli uomini e le donne le donne secondo questa definizione, si perderebbero il 50% delle risorse umane e si perderebbe una prospettiva diversa sui problemi. Le donne e gli uomini sono diversi ed è proprio quella diversità che, come tutte le diversità, rapprensenta una ricchezza. Se chiudiamo quella diverstà in un gineceo non ci possiamo guadagnare nulla. E' un discorso molto economico. Come sempre non è questione di giusto o sbagliato, ma di utile e non utile.
E' in queste affermazioni subdole che si nascoste un maschilismo ottuso e pericoloso. Non ho letto nessun commento a queste parole e la cosa mi preoccupa; se nessuno fa notare la stupidità di discorsi del genere, le persone si abituano a pensarla in quel modo e le donne continueranno a essere considerate (e considerarsi) in secondo piano. Una mia conoscente sostiene che le donne siano meno brave degli uomini in informatica... probabilmente è solo un modo per giustificare una sua mancanza; ma è un atteggiamento emblematico.

When you hear someone speak those words, you can realize that women are still seen as housewives that have to stay at home nursing children and obeying to their men's orders.
It is not scandalous, it is plain stupid. If men were men and women were women according to this definition, we would lose 50% of human resources and a different point of view. Women and men are different and this diversity, like all diversities, represents a treasure. If we close this diversity in a room, we cannot get anything out of it. It just economy; it is not a matter of right and wrong, it is a matter of utility.
An obtuse and dangerous chauvinism hide itself in those words. I haven't read any commentary on Berlusconi's speech and I am afraid about this; if nobody points out the stupidity of that position people will get used to think like that and women will continue to be considered and consider themselves less important.
A female acquaintance of mine states that women are necessarily worse at programming a computer than men... probably it is just a way to hid a incapacity of hers; but it is a revealing attitude.

E' un bel po' che non scrivo, se mai avrò tempo vi racconterò di quello che ho fatto in questo mese. Principalmente cose correlate al lavoro. Oggi vorrei parlare di un fatto che credo tutti gli italiani conoscano. Le angherie subite da un ragazzo down perpretate dai suo compagni di classe. I fatti sono noti a nutti, quei geni del male si sono filmati e hanno pubblicato su youtube il filmato. Il filmato è stato scovato da qualche giornalista e da lì è partito tutto. I presunti colpevoli sono stati identificati, la scuola li ha puniti e la macchina giudiziaria con le sue gigantesche inerzie si è messa in moto.
Il fatto che vorrei commentare è che il pm Francesco Cajani ha deciso di perseguire google per i fatti del video. Io trovo tutto ciò semplicemente ridicolo. Sarò io troppo di destra, ma se io commetto un reato e poi confesso a qualcuno di averlo commesso, la colpa ricade anche sulla persona alla quale l'ho confessato? Qualcosa non mi torna.
Solo a me è venuto in mente che in realtà google in questa storia non dovrebbe essere accusata, ma ringraziata? se non ci fosse stato youtube e lo scandalo da lì partito, quelle persone avrebbero continuato a maltrattare il ragazzo. L'esistenza di youtube ha evitato che quelle violenze si ripetessero.
Siamo quindi sicuri che google abbia fatto così male? La risposta corretta è che google non ha fatto nè bene nè male. Google, e nella fattispecie youtube, è solo uno strumento. Gli strumenti sono solo strumenti, nè buoni nè cattivi. Solo strumenti. Quando lo impareremo?

I haven't been writing for a long time. If I ever have time I will tell you what I have been up to this month. Mostly work related stuff. Today I would like to talk about something that happened in Italy. A couple of weeks ago someone found a video on youtube, in this video 5 young kids beaten a disabled kid who was one of their classmates. Everything happened at school. The kids were identified, the school punished them and the legal machine has started to move. In Italy trials can last up to 10 years, so it will a long of time before we hear of them again.
What I would like to write about it is not the fact itself. A few days ago prosecutor Francesco Cajani decided to prosecute google because it allowed the video to be published. This is just ridiculous. I may be too conservative but if I break the law and confess it to Mr. Smith, is Mr. Smith responsible of what I've done? I don't think so.
It is just me or google should actually be thanked? If it wasn't for youtube those kids would have continued harassing the disabled kid. Youtube saved that guy.
Are we sure that google did any evil? The correct answer is that google didn't evil neither good. Google and youtube is just a tool. Tools are just tools, not good nor evil, simple plain tools. When will we learn it?
